Just in time for Christmas, the Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation group is offering rides on the "North Pole Express." The trip aboard the group's quarter scale live steam train is billed as a trip through a "magical wonderland of lights and decorations."
The ride consists of several trips around the group's outdoor track passing Christmas lights and other holiday decorations along the way. The rail cars are open, so consider dressing appropriately for the weather.
We visited the NWORRP last year during the holidays and had a very enjoyable time. In addition to the train rides, there are model railroad layouts, more Christmas decorations and a gift shop inside of their building. All in all, it was a short, delightful family event that just seemed to "fit" in with the holiday season.
The hours for the train trips are as follows: 6-9pm Fridays, 5-9pm Saturdays and 5-8pm on Sundays from now through December 30th. Cost of the rides are $2 for adults and $1 for children. Active duty military service personnel and their immediate families will each receive one free ride upon presentation of a valid DOD identification card.
The NWORRP is located in the northwest corner of Findlay right along I-75 at Exit 161 on County Road 99. For more information about the NWORRP, please visit their web site at: http://www.nworrp.org/
Until next time...
