Basketball Updates: 12-02-08

We’re back in business and the winter sports season is beginning to heat up.
We’ll post our boys and girls basketball stories and boxscores nightly here on The Buzz nightly throughout the season.

CORY-RAWSON 37
RAWSON — Morgan Dumbaugh went on a scoring spree Tuesday night as Ada crushed Cory-Rawson 66-37 in non-conference action to stay undefeated early in the season.
Dumbaugh drained 3 3-pointers along with 7 scores from inside the arc to finish with 23 points. She also led the Bulldogs (2-0) with 4 assists.
Samantha Fell had a solid game as well with 15 points for Ada.
Freshmen Courtney Ritter and Morgan Woodward led the Hornets (0-3) with 7 points a piece.

BLUFFTON — Lydia Guagenti and Jonica Schmutz both just missed double-doubles as they led Bluffton to a 61-52 non-conference girls basketball win over Upper Scioto Valley Tuesday.
Bluffton chucked up plenty of long-range shots as they connected on 10-of-35 from 3-point range to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Guagenti led the way with 14 points and 9 rebounds while Schmutz chipped in 11 points and 9 boards. Katie Althaus also hit for double figures with 12 points.
Katie Hicks and Rachel Jeffers netted 17 and 14 points for the Rams (0-1).

WHITEHOUSE — Dannyel Butte poured in 17 points Tuesday, but Findlay High suffered its first loss when the Trojans were knocked off 58-48 in non-league action by Anthony Wayne.
The Trojans (1-1) nailed 18 of 35 field goals, but committed 20 turnovers.
Ashley Miller added 14 points for Findlay, which got 10 rebounds from Andrea Mitchell.
Anthony Wayne got 14 points from Jordan Floyd, while Erika Schmidt and Ashley Bromley added 13 and 12 points each. The Generals (2-0) were playing without Bowling Green State University signee Allison Papenfus, who is out with an injury.

Columbus Grove’s Erica Glass knocked down 14 points and Ashley Birchmeier added 11 and 6 rebounds.
Amelia Carter scored 21 points for Riverside. Sara Emerich scored 8 and recorded 11 rebounds.

Liberty-Benton held Hopewell-Loudon to single digit scoring through the first three quarters of play as the Eagles scalped the Chieftans 68-26 in a non-conference season opener Tuesday.
The Eagles established a comfortable 38-6 halftime lead to cruise along to the easy win.
Amanda Hyde and Amber Petersen each drained 14 points for the Eagles. Hyde also dished out 3 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds. Caite Craft and Katelyn Saums each scored 10 points. Craft recorded 7 steals.
Hopewell-Loudon’s Meghan Scherger scored a team-high 11 points.

UPPER SANDUSKY — Stever Schaadt and Olivia French each scored 13 points for Colonel Crawford as the Eagles bested Upper Sandusky 46-31 Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup.
Rebounding was key as Colonel Crawford doubled up the Rams 30-15 at the glass.
Holly Jones led the way for Upper Sandusky with 13 points.
The Rams couldn’t find its aim from 3-point land, shooting only 3-of-15 while also committing 22 turnovers.

Amelia Recker scored 17 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Arlington (3-0). Jasmine Foster scored 15 points and Alivia Recker added 10 points and 6 steals. Tina Brunswick recorded 6 steals and dished out 6 assists.
North Baltimore’s (0-2) Jessica Casey scored 7 points. Jesscia Frost added 5 points and 5 rebounds. Brittany Tellez recorded 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

Taylor Mathias led a trio of New Riegel players in double figures with 14 points. Paula Kelbley popped in 11 points and Lauren Hutton netted 10 points and grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds for the Blue Jackets (2-0).
Nicole Lamb knocked down 8 points for the Cardinals (1-1).

Rachel Adolph, Laura Thornton, Sara Doxsey and Chelsi Faine each scored 12 points. Madi Grant grabbed 10 rebounds while Adolph picked off 8 caroms for the Black Knights (1-1).
Eastwood also had a pair of players in double figures as Emily Bockbrader and Brooke Gottfried both netted 12 points for the Eagles (1-1).

Shelby Stump led the Polar Bears’ balanced scoring attack with 10 points. She also grabbed 6 rebounds in the contest.
Paige Guenther had 19 points for Ridgemont in the loss.

ROSSFORD — The free-throw line was huge for Fostoria Tuesday as the Redmen took a 49-40 non-conference win from Rossford.
Fostoria made 26 free throws, including 15 by Aja Hall and 10 by Veronica Wonderly.
Hall finished with 26 points and Wonderly helped out with 18 for the Redmen.

BLOOMDALE — Bowling Green used a dominating two quarters to overcome a slow start as the Bobcats rallied past Elmwood, 57-36, in a non-league matchup between the Wood County rivals.
Senor guard Liz Hammer nailed six 3-pointers and poured in 22 points for BG. Stanisha Taylor added 12 points for the Bobcats, who trailed 14-13 after one period of play but blitzed Elmwood 32-12 over the second and third quarters.
Brooke Rosendale had a team-high 12 points for Elmwood.
