Good morning from Columbus.
It’s 7:05 and Mark Heiman and I are up and ready for a long day at the 101st OHSAA state track and field championships.
Sure we’re going to be hot, so are the 15,000 or 20,000 athletes and fans that will be on hand today. Right now there’s no breeze and not a cloud to be seen in the sky. The temperature today is supposed to reach 94 degrees.
Several Northwest Ohio schools have also made their headquarters at The Varsity Inn on Olentangy River Road for the weekend. Clyde is here and Napoleon is here too.
And in the room next door, there are four colorful lightning bolts made of construction paper taped to the window. A simple sign reads run, jump and vault by lightning.
I saw them file into the room last evening…it’s the full of Ottawa-Glandorf Lady Titan competitors who will be competing this weekend.
Coach Vicky Doty always seems to have her girls ready to run, jump and vault like lightning down in Columbus so this year should be no different.
Check back for more stories later in the day.
