COLUMBUS - Bluffton's boys 800-meter relay team set a state meet and interscholastic record Friday morning during the first day of the OHSAA state track and field meet at OSU's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The team of Ricardo Pena, Zach Guagenti, Jesse Herr and John Guagenti finished the race in 1:28.55.
Guagenti also qualified for Saturday's finals in the 200 and 400 sprints and the 4x400 team also advanced.
It was a good morning for the Bluffton faithful as Bonnie Stratton also moved on in the 100 and 200 sprints and anchored the 400 and 800 relay teams into Saturday.
The Blanchard Valley Conference showed its speed as Liberty-Benton's Kerry Cramner, Pandora-Gilboa's Sam Spallinger and Hardin Northern's Nathan Bame advanced.
As an added sidenote, as Jamie Baker said earlier it is brutally hot. Thank God for the wind, which I usually complain about. Because of the heat, a small cloud in the sky, which blocked out the sun, received the loudest cheer of the day from the crowd.
