Barack Obama’s story is an American story that reflects a life of struggle, opportunity and responsibility like those faced by Americans everyday. The opening night of the Convention will highlight Barack’s life story, his commitment to change, and the voices of Americans who are calling for a new direction for this country.
- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Claire McCaskill will speak about the values of the Democratic Party and the efforts to take America in a New Direction and to reach out to all voters, in particular new voters, independents and Republicans to get the country moving in the right direction again at this critical time; nightly theme will be "One Nation."
- Tribute to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who has worked for more than 45 years to bring the country together and ensure equal opportunity for all Americans.
- Barack Obama’s sister Maya Soetero-Ng will talk about her brother’s life and the experiences that have shaped him as a leader.
- Michelle Obama will be the headline prime-time speaker. As the person who knows him best, Michelle will talk about the Barack Obama she knows and loves, the values that shape him, and why she believes he’ll be an extraordinary president. Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama’s older brother, will introduce Michelle.
The DNCC will offer live, gavel-to-gavel, streaming video coverage in HD.
A complete, Spanish-language simulcast will also be available.
“America’s Town Hall” will virtually throw open the doors to the Convention hall by inviting individuals across the country to submit text and video questions.
