Letter to the Editor: Walking at Graduation

My father was an elementary and high school principal for over 30 years. To this day, I remember three things about his tenure: the paddle hanging on his office wall that students signed, him deciding not to attend graduation parties of any student who threw their mortarboard into the air at graduation, and former students that I meet cannot say enough nice things about him. Why do I remember this? Students may not be aware that those entrusted with supervising their academic growth are actually concerned about them. When I talk to his former students, they have matured and realized that he really cared about their well being and their future.
