We should have a pretty solid group of incoming freshmen, which looks promising for a couple of years down the road. Our best bets to make it to Columbus will be Daniel Jewell and D.J. Recknagel, both with district experience. Mason Tinney has been putting in a lot of hours, so don’t be surprised to see him win 30 matches this season.

NOTABLE: The Wildcats will be thin in experience with four returning lettermen as well as bodies with 15 wrestlers on the roster.
COACH’S COMMENT: The best way to monitor this season is going to be based on improvement. We are not going to fill all the weight classes and we only have three wrestlers with varsity experience so we are going to have our work cut out for us in order to compete as a team. We have a group of kids that are working hard and have already shown improvement and I believe some of our new faces will be solid wrestlers at the end of the year.
I have really high expectations for my three returning letter winners and I believe they will do good things for us this year. The goal is to advance multiple guys to the state tournament and I think that is a very good possibility. I also see a lot of talent and potential in our young wrestlers and with hard work they will be solid wrestlers and strong contributors to this team.

2008-09 RECORD/CONFERENCE FINISH: 2-6/Third in Ohio Wrestling League.

NOTABLE: Elchert is a returning state placer with a 105-25 career record for the Redskins. Look for True, Lewis and Smith to have big seasons for Arcadia too.

School: Montpelier High School
Coach: Troy Roth
School’s nickname: Locomotives
League: Northwest Ohio Athletic League (NWOAL)
Classification: Division 3
Last year’s record: 14-15 (4-4 leagues)
League standing: 6th, tournament 6th
Total years coaching: 22 yrs. (8 as head coach)
Year’s at Montpelier: 8 years
Overall record: 77-86

Lettermen Lost: Nick Kriescher 135, four year starter; Jake Keller 152, four year starter; Chase Howard 285, three year starter and league champion.
Lettermen returning: 15 lettermen return, including 7 district qualifiers. Seniors Matt Wells-215; Luke Boehm-145; Derek Jimenez-152; DJ Ferguson-112; Dylan Brown-160; Korbin Castillo-140; Scott Cooley-125; Ben Saddoris-189; Stephen Dix-119; Kyle McCarty-171; and Jarrick Champion-215 have 31 letters. Juniors Cody Lamberson-130; Sam Schroeder-135; and Steven Shook-189 each have two letters while Junior David Ratliff also returns as a letter winner.
Strengths for the season: With the potential to have a Junior or Senior at 13 of the 14 weight classes, we should have a strong team. Much of this will be contingient on getting the right wrestlers to their proper weight classes. We will surprise no one, all area teams are aware that we will have many seniors in our lineup, it will be up to us to take advantage of such experience.
Overall outlook: The NWOAL should be extremely competitive this year. Every team in the league has wrestlers capable of qualifying to the State tournament. As many as five teams could win the league this year with Liberty Center and Wauseon have a slight edge on paper.
Western Reserve

NOTABLE: Grys and Boyd are both returning district qualifiers. Look for significant improvement from the Roughriders this season as Coach Grys has 25 wrestlers on his roster this season.
Archbold

Coaching Experience: 4 years assistant at Ayersville
4 years assistant at Toledo Central Catholic
1 year head coach at Hicksville
3 years assistant at Archbold
7 years head coach at Archbold
Coaching Record : 230-56-1
Assistant coaches: Mario Gomez, Kevin Bostelman, Luke Stuckey, Donnie Young, Tyler Short, Kraig Bostelman
Lettermen Lost: Chad Rufenacht (state qualifier), Trevor Meyer (district placer), Jared Leininger (district placer), Jacob Fidler (district qualifier), Brandon Wagner, Kyle Stipp
Lettermen Returning: T.J. Weirauch, jr., 119, district qualifier; Oliver Stuckey, soph., 125; Austin Ripke, soph., 135; Jordan Cowell, soph., 140, state qualifier; Danny Young, soph., 145; Cody Kovnesky, soph., 145; Tyler Rufenacht, soph., 152; Eli Urbina, soph., 160; Chase Gingerich, sr., 171; Zach Driver, soph., 171; Isaac Rosales, jr., 189; Kellen Seaman, soph. 189; Shem Neuenschwander, sr., 189 district qualifier; Jacob Strong, soph., 215; Brandon Dennis, jr., 285.
Strengths for the season: Our inexperience should be negated by the post season with us having so many matches on our schedule against quality opponents.
Weaknesses for the season: Most of our lineup will consist of freshmen and sophomores. We have very little post season experience with just two returning district qualifiers on our roster.
Overall outlook: We have some guys that we expect to be competing in Columbus at the end of the season. The realignment of division three will make it easier for our wrestlers to qualify to the district and state tournament this season.
League outlook: I would consider Liberty Center to be considered the favorite to win our league heading into the season. I expect a majority of the teams in our league will have a state placer at the end of the season.
Lexington
Head Coach: Brent Rastetter (7th year at Lex, 84-7 dual mark during that time, 60 District Qualifiers, 10 State Qualifiers, 4 State Placers) State Duals Runner-up last season, 9th in the state meet.

District Qualifier 32-12, Jake Faust (So.) District Qualifier 28-9, Brandon Burks (Jr.) District Alternate 32-14, Kyle Martinez (Sr.) 15-8
Others to watch: Brad Metz (So.), Nick Fackelman (Sr.), Cameron May (Sr.), Vince Kaple (Sr.), Zack Edwards (Sr.), Caleb Fraley (Jr.) Mo McQuillen (Fr.), Josh Lehner (Fr.)
Notable: This is the most talented team I have coached during my 18 year career, if we avoid the injury bug and keep our focus this group could have a special year. We had a tremendous off season with multiple boys wrestling in Fargo and at the Jr. Olympics among other things and that time spent on the mat has really matured them.

NOTABLE: Ackerman and Chesser should lead the way for the Polar Bears this season. Both were district qualifiers last season as Ackerman was 27-9 and Chesser finished 26-16.
Upper Sandusky
HEAD COACH: Chris Rodriguez (3rd year, 28-13).
2008-09 RECORD/CONFERENCE FINISH: 14-7/Sixth in Northern Ohio League.

TOP PROSPECTS: Colin Bather, jr.; Alan Gullifer, jr.; Brian Moyers, jr.; Robert Lodge, soph.; Ian Baker, fr.; Tyler Baker, fr.; Cory Frey, fr.; Taran Gillen, fr.; Adam Gottfried, fr.; Randy Harp, fr.; Brad Hoy, fr.; Ross Powers, fr.; Nick Riedlinger, fr.; Jesse Shane, fr.; Allie Smith, fr.; Neil Thomas, fr.; Kurt Ziegler, fr.
NOTABLE: The Rams will be making their first trip to the postseason as a Division III team and look for them to have some success. Chase Kenner, a returning district qualifier and Northern Ohio League champ, should be a contender for a state tournament bid this season.
Lima Central Catholic
HEAD COACH: Pat Murphy (23rd year).
2008-09 RECORD/CONFERENCE FINISH: 3-5/Sixth in Northwest Conference.
RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Adam Geiger, sr., 130; Anthony Patterson, sr., 145; Anthony McCormick, sr., 160; Cory Hahn, sr., 171; Joseph Shanahan, sr., 215/285; Tyler Tschuor, sr., 285; Cody Hahn, jr., 135; David Gremling, soph., 189; Sean Griesdorn, soph., 215.
TOP PROSPECTS: Brandon McCormick, fr., 103; Bobby Sunderhaus, fr., 152; Jake Tremoulis, fr., 140.
NOTABLE: Both the Hahn boys and Tschuor won 31 matches last season for the Thunderbirds. They have nine returning letter winners and five returning district qualifiers so LCC should be one of the top teams in the Northwest Conference this season.

NOTABLE: Sonneberg is a returning state placer and will be the cornerstone of this year‘s team. But Gerken also likes the look of his young freshman and sophomore classes. The Black Knights should also field a nearly-full lineup and will likely only be without a 103-pounder this season.
Plymouth
HEAD COACH: Jeremiah Balkin 10th year
ASSISTANT COACHES: Nick Roll, Mike Costein
CAREER TOTAL: 45-58-2 Three championship as a team, five-runner ups as a team, 4 state qualifiers, 36-district qualifiers, 3 sectional champs, 15 conference champs
LAST YEAR: 0-15 Duals 7th in Conference
KEY LOSSES: Myles Rinehart 121 career wins 2X District Qualifier, David McDonald 2X District Qualifier
SCHEDULE: http://plymouthwrestling.webs.com/schedule.htm
OVERVIEW: This year appears to be a young team on paper, but numerous wrestlers have had quite a bit of experience in the biddy and middle school programs. Our roster stands at twenty wrestlers, which is the most I have had in my ten years at Plymouth. We only have one senior, which looks promising for the future. We lack experience, but we help make up for it in depth.
PROBABLE LINEUP
103-Brett Eldridge 9th Brett is in his first year of wrestling, but he is very athletic and intelligent. Brett picks up on moves easily. This is the first time we have had a 103 in six years.
112-open
119-Zach Ruch 9th Zach has been wrestling for me since he was in grade school. Coming up through the biddy program he has a lot of experience. Zach is tall and he is able to use leverage to his advantage. Last year he was a middle school conference champ.
125-Ty Schrader 10th Ty is only a sophomore, but he has been wrestling since he was 5. Ty needs to be a leader on the team and help the young kids develop. Last year Ty fought some injuries and ended up 16-16 on the year. He was 2nd at conference and 6th at sectionals. Last yearTy should've been at districts, but this year he has worked very hard on the mistakes he made at sectionals and we are expecting big things from him this year.
130 and 135
This is where our depth comes in. Right now we have five kids eyeing for two spots. The front runners right now are Dakota Foster 11th and Jarrod Donnersbach 9th. Dakota is a two time conference placer and it is time for him to step up and improve on his mistakes. Jarrod is another freshman he has been wrestling through grade school and is now pushing for a starting spot. Jarrod was a middle school state qualifier last year. Other wrestlers pushing for spots are Cory McDonald 11th, who is the younger brother of David. Josh Schrader 10th, and Jarred Alsept 10th. These three individuals are first year wrestlers.
140-Mark Stephens 12th Mark moved back into the district this year. He was here a few years ago and he has some wrestling experience. Mark is a strong kid who needs to work on technique. I think he could have a good year after he learns a few things throughout the year.
145-Logan Horn 9th Logan is another freshman who has wrestled in the youth program. Logan is a very good wrestler who is intelligent. Logan is a middle school conference champ, middle school district champ, and middle school state qualifier. Logan needs to work on wrestling the high school style of wrestling. He is in a weight class where he will see some older kids and some others that are close to his age. I am looking forward to his transition to high school.
152-Nick Hale 11th, Kaleb Foster 11th, and Zac Arnold 9th Right now I think Zac has the advantage, but all of these wrestlers should challenge each other throughout the year. One of them might challenge for 160 also.
160-Josh Dudleson 10th Josh is young, but he has some wrestling experience from grade school. Josh has really turned his life around and I look forward to seeing hime progress throughout the year.
171-189
These two weight classes will be filled by two veterans at Plymouth. Derrick Beers 11th and Nick Fletcher 11th have been wrestling for numerous years. I am not sure who has the advantage right now. Nick came along at the end of last year and showed a lot of promise. Derrick's season was cut short by a broken collarbone, but he is very athletic and wants to succeed. Jeff Runkle 9th may also see time at one of these weight classes or at 215.
215-Chris Parsons 10th Chris is a returning letterwinner that knows a lot about wrestling, but he is still learning how to wrestle at this weight class.
285-Austin Hughes 10th Austin has really picked it up from last year. He has been in the weight room and came to quite of few open mats in the offseason. I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses this year.
Overall we have seven returning letterman, but we are young. I feel we can be in the middle of the pack at conference and in a few years when these young kids develop compete for the championships. Monroeville is the favorite to win conference (second in the state last year), then Crestview, after that it is up in the air on placements.
