Presidential Games

Here's a little something fun for this election season.

Now you can waste as much time as our politicians.

Enjoy yourself & then get back to work.

Pitch, Hit & Run

Here's a little update:

Besides heading up the Major Youth League (13 - 15 year olds) I also took on coaching in the Pee-Wee League (7 - 8 year olds). That's a bit of an adjustment. I'm kind of feeling like I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Although, it is a labor of love. I enjoy the sport, the kids & the atmoshpere surrounding youth baseball. I sure hope it's enjoyable for the kids & their families as well.

There's a fantastic event coming up for these young aspiring baseball players to show their stuff. It's Pitch, Hit & Run: the baseball version of Punt, Pass & Kick. Here's the info if you know some folks who may be interested.

Sunday, April 27, 2008 (make up is May 4, 2008)
Registration: 1pm - 2pm
Competition begins at 2pm
Location: Emory Adams - south fields
Coordinator:
Steve McMaster

I promise, I'll get back to politics before too long. Just allow me some time to adjust & get my seasons under way.

Hiatus

Sorry folks I haven't been keeping up with the blog lately. The last three nights I've had baseball tryouts or meetings & Thursday night will be no different. As the baseball season draws near I'm getting more busy.

This year I've taken on the responsibility of Major Youth League commissioner. I love the game of baseball; especially youth baseball. While I love to voice my opinion & debate the political issues of the day, working with these young athletes seems a little more important. We may not be training the next Ken Griffey, Jr. but in these young athletes there could be a future Mayor of Findlay; a school teacher or principal; a small business owner or a railroader. Some of them may grow up to be managers, foremen & co-workers. Hopefully their experience with Findlay Youth Baseball leaves a lasting impression that hard work, punctuality, commitment, respect & responsibility become the qualities that guide them into adulthood.

I know that seems like a lot to get from youth sports, but the kids need to learn it somewhere & I hope we're doing our best to instill those qualities into our youth. There's a song from the 80s that states "I believe the children are our future" & even though it's just a song it does state a simple fact. Most of us won't ever make a serious impact on politics other than casting a vote. However, impacting the lives of our youth could make a lasting impact on the future of our city, state & country. What an awesome responsibility we adults have to today's youth.

With the season about to start I'll be taking a short hiatus from the blog. I hope to be back & running in about a week or so. Maybe I'll see some of you out at the fields this year enjoying America's pastime.
