Oh my. I just read my last post from three months ago. I've been thinking that I needed to update the blog, but hadn't realized it had been THAT long! It's hard to believe that I was talking about it being so hot outside, and the peaches JUST NOW starting to ripen.
OK...since that time....
The peaches have obviously ripened, and the leaves are already off the trees. I froze bag after bag of peaches. My goal had been to have enough to have peaches twice a week until next fall, but that didn't happen. Only two of the trees produced well, and the others never ripened. They stayed little, yellow and hard. Not sure what caused that....will have to do some research, I guess.
The "fall garden" never happened, either. Maybe next year.
I have been working on the plumbing and electrical, but took a break to work on the ceiling insulation. Winter came too quick! There is no attic...it's a cathedral ceiling, so, since there is no insulation, the wind whips in the soffit vents and swirls around the upstairs. Chilly, chilly. I started putting the ceiling insulation in and I think it is making a big difference already. I've got a spot about 14' by 14' that I can't figure out how to reach, however. It's over a lofted area and ranges from 13 foot to 20 foot off the ground. I've advertised for someone with "more imagination and/or more guts than I have" to help me with it. <grin>
Other than that, I've been drooling over seed catalogs (yes....already!!!) and researching some heritage breeds of hogs that I'd like to try. Dreaming of spring already....
