I think 2010 was an anomaly. This was one of the best state track meets in terms of times/distances in recent memory. For example, any other year Spallinger would have walked away with the 400 title, but he got beat by an outstanding time.

As for 2011, I look for that to be a strong year in the area. You've got Wolfe (CG) and Keller (LB) who will battle for the state title in the pole vault. Eickholt (Ottoville) and Kohls (CG) in the high jump, Boes (PG) in the discus, Conkle (LB) and Luginbuhl (Bluffton) in the hurdles and several other underclassmen who did not make it to state this year because of the excpetional competition, but would have made it most years.

So, when you have programs like Bluffton, Columbus Grove and Liberty Benton around I think there will always be a strong showing at the state meet from this area.

With enrollment declining in most of the schools across the area, I think the streak of success in Columbus for spring athletes may be coming to an end. Look, there were only four boys advancing to the finals this year. There will be those few here and there, but I don't know if it will be in like years past.
